I know the Christmas season "officially" starts after Thanksgiving (though stores insist on advertising earlier), but sheesh. I woke up this morning to the first snowfall of this season. I am, however, thankful for the day. With school out and so many people taking the day off work, the roads were all but empty as I drove in. If I have to drive in snow (and clear a good six or more inches of snow off my truck), I much prefer to do so without traffic.

Beowulf : Interesting movie. Excellent CGI - the faces are getting particularly good, though liquid and sometimes movement still come across as very artificial. The story is changed some from the source material, but I think I have a preference for this particular twist as it makes the monsters less "just there." I'm surprised, however, that it is PG-13. There's a lot of sexual references, a fair amount of nudity (though without actually revealing "bits"), and gobs of violence. I can't help but think they couldn't have gotten away with that rating using live actors for the same things. Why is everyone surprised (or outright disbelieving) when I mention that Arizona Green Tea (and green tea in general) contains caffeine? It's not loaded like some drinks, but shouldn't the "decaffeinated" version for sale usually right next to the regular would be a tip off? I had a chance to look at the second edition Exalted rules recently. Arg...

Typical. I give voice to my feelings and end up hurting someone, thereby feeling bad in turn. Maybe "honesty is the best policy," but it sure can be a painful path to take. And now I get to walk on eggshells around work to boot. So, a little request. The next time you feel the urge to say "go for it!" to me as far as a relationship goes, give some serious, serious thought to refraining from that impulse.

This one is personal enough to get flagged friends-only, yepyep. Sometimes writing (typing) things out is the only way to put my thoughts to words. Sometimes even that doesn't help. So after some talk last week (mostly after six, while I was on my night shift), Linda mentioned she was into geocaching and I thought I'd give that a try with her. Sunday was, I suppose, our "first date." So I went over to her place, had breakfast, loaded some coordinates in her GPS, and we set out. One cache was near the road. Others involved some hiking. The one near X-Rock we didn't manage to find. Those GPS's can be tricky once you get close to the target (I can only hope military ones are better). Then we went back to her apartment, snuggled, shared back massages, kissed and snuggled some more, she made dinner, and we watched a movie in her living room. I feel the hints of another rant coming on. But before that happens, I think I want to look at something another way - a way I rarely do. Things I Like About Furryfaire: - I enjoy getting a character out to meet and talk with others that I don't know well. It gives me perspectives and information I'm not usually privy to and it lets me show off my own character in turn. There was a time this was a nightly occurance, and I'm a bit saddened it is no longer so. - I enjoy roleplaying with my friends' characters. I do. Really. I just wish more of them could "play well" together at the same time, because this usually means one of my characters and one of theirs and maybe one of us describing NPCs. I think it would be more satisfying to have 3-4 players and their characters involved rather than 2. - I enjoy organized TPs... sometimes. The ones I like most usually involve a relatively-small group, gathered for a purpose rather than characters gathered out of c...

The work aspect of my workday has been a hassle between setting up a new printer that seemed flaky at best (until an IP conflict was found and fixed) and communicating directly with Adobe regarding an upgrade. Also, the paper secured a number of Rockies tickets for the World Series. There was a drawing this afternoon. I entered because, while not a huge baseball fan myself these days, it would have been awesome to take my dad along. I wasn't drawn, though - no surprise, back to normal (in that regard). But that ain't the half of it, as they say. No, I'm told I have a "secret admirer." ... Okay, maybe the heart-shaped amethyst that showed up on my desk a day or two ago should have garnered more interest from me, but I didn't focus on it much after the intial "huh, what, where did this come from" moment. Rifts World Book 10 - Juicer Uprising This RPG expansion book describes fictional (of course) events in a post-apocalyptic/sci-fi/multiversal setting. One particular passage catches my eye (emphasis mine): "The incident that precipitates the whole Uprising is one of those unforeseen events that can change history. Coalition investigators eventually piece together the chain of events, and can only find one person to blame, a young officer named Max Devon , thus the entire incident is named after him."
