Oh Yeah...
... that's what a good lazy day can feel like. I'd pretty much forgotten. I've somehow gotten into a mindset that says going through a day without doing anything but blowing some time in a game is dissatisfying and wasteful. But yesterday I managed to sleep in a little and nap for a few hours, and it felt glorious. The weekend still felt too short, though, and traffic this morning reminds me that school is back in session.
What else?
My dad insisted on lending me the Wool Omnibus via Kindle, and I finished that up quickly enough after starting. The writing all the way through didn't strike me quite as much as the initial outing, though I wonder if that was because I was more drawn into the story. It is an interesting tale, still reminding me of the Fallout vaults. The story serves to highlight how even the most ruthless and evil of people (from an outside perspective) are often so because they believe it is good and/or necessary, and leaves question of whether doing the good/right thing really is better in the long run. Real-world morality is a matter of perspective. I can't really comment more precisely than that without spoiling elements.
I also read through Kitty in the Underworld pretty quickly. That series has always felt on the light side of my reading material, but this one even more so. As much as I enjoy visiting the characters (well, mainly Kitty), it felt like nothing really happened in this volume. Oh sure, Kitty's kidnapped and there's a lot of internal dialogue before (and after) she finally gets to talk to her captors. But when the dust settles, what's changed? Kitty has one additional potential friend/recurring character and our heroes have put out an encoded spellbook/research notes on the bad guy out on the internet (which happened in a few pages in the epilogue anyway). I just don't see much development in characters or the overarching plot. So... reasonably enjoyable visit to characters, but kind of disappointing.
I also got to view the pre-alpha Star Citizen hangar. There isn't a whole lot to say about that, though. Walk around a hangar, look over (and in) the models of any ships your account has access to. Looks fairly nice, but that's about all I can say this early. They've recently hit $17 million in crowdfunding, as I understand. Pretty notable.
And there's a fairly big patch coming for Guild Wars 2 today. Not big in content so much, though it does bring back the Super Adventure Box for low-resolution-style platforming. As I understand, they're putting in cap increases for 3 crafting types, crafted ascended weapons, some new reward tweaks, and making their big adjustment to the Magic Find stat. I'm still a bit miffed about that last one. While it's probably good for the game to normalize that some, and it's a big benefit to alt-players, it means I'm taking a hit from about +140% MF in the gear to closer to +40% maybe, if that.
A little more subtle, the way they're giving MF-boosting items for salvaging blue/green-rarity items is a way to cut down on the market-flooding of these that has been going on now for quite a while - it's often been more profitable to sell such items to a vendor than on the trading post due to the high supply and relatively low demand. This will encourage another avenue of removing those items from the game. So... eh... I guess we'll see how that shakes out in the long run.
