(Star Wars) What The F-...?
Disney buys Lucasfilm?
That... I... what...?
New movies? LucasArts and other things like Lucas Licensing are subsidiaries so... uhh... are they going too? Does that mean Disney will have copyright control over the entire Star Wars franchise?
I can barely grasp the ramifications. That could be... very good or very bad for Star Wars to be out from Lucas' personal thumb.
Addendum: Maybe I should be quite so surprised at the parties involved, given the invasion of Lucasfilm properties in Disney parks (Star Tours, Indiana Jones), but that's still a big thing.

I am tentatively optimistic about the deal. Lucas goes away and Disney can put people in charge who will make money by giving fans what they expect or want. I hope.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'll put myself in that camp too, considering most of the SW stuff I've seen that I didn't like seemed to bear more of Lucas' direct input. It's sort of an awkward thing to say about a license creator, but I think SW has been better off when Lucas has had people to rein in his ideas, and that's been lacking. I just never thought I'd see the day. It appears this doesn't change any of the existing licenses - Paramount's right to Indiana Jones movies was explicitly mentioned in one article, so I presume all the various game licenses stay where they are now. It does mean potentially different people making the decisions when those licenses are up for renegotiation, though.
