(WoW) Stuff

Well... Raid nights have ups and downs. Once again, we're currently often floating at around 12 "qualified" people and only 10 slots, but we've bounced around too many or two few pretty much since we started raiding. I think this weighs overly much on our guild leader, and he wants to please everyone he can and agonizes when the players he may be closest to are not always the best performers. It's rough. I feel part of the "problem" remains our casual, friendly atmosphere. I think more dedicated raiding guilds have official policies they can point to as far as who gets in under what conditions. We lack that, and trying to come up with a set of rules may put off some people.

After some minorly painful shuffling, but no actual griping that I heard, we looked for direction. A quick vote had us tackling Magmaw and Omnitron as a warmup. They're pretty easy and routine for us now. Omnitron can still go badly, but didn't. Then we jaunted over to the Throne of Four Winds to take on the Conclave again. We had a couple people new to the encounter, so I'm not surprised it took four or five shots to get right. What did surprise me was our DPS output seemed notably greater this time. Anshal's adds usually got down even when we didn't pull an extra person from Rohash and we were going through 2-3 ultimates before killing a boss instead of 4. With that under our collective belts, we cleared BoT trash up to Halfus a couple times, then tackled Halfus himself with the feared taunt-trading required. We did consider three-tanking, but opted to just go with two and I believe our fifth shot was victorious, proving that's doable. The last trash pack before Valiona actually coughed up something useful for someone in-group, which was a nice touch. Actually, a very successful night, all told.

Now, it looks like raid leading reins have been passed (at least temporarily) to someone else who's trying to gear up for a Friday night raid prior to Saturday's. Heh. It had to be on a week I work nights, didn't it? So odds are I'll miss Friday's. And with Saturday, they want to tackle Al'Akir, which... is one of those bosses I could see us sinking a whole night into without success. We'll see, I suppose.

Blizzard's announcing "bribes" for healers and tanks entering into random PUG heroics. Bleh. More serious bloggers than I have expressed reactions more clearly than I. I tend to avoid random PUG dungeons because, more often than not, it's an unpleasant experience that takes a lot of time. A little extra gold and a chance at a mount isn't going to make it more enjoyable. The problem is more one of attitude among a fair percentage of players involved, and this won't fix that.
