(WoW) So That's the Frozen Throne
One quick downing of Patchwerk for the weekly quest (and one person didn't have it, for shame!) and a little shuffling of raid lockouts put us back before Sindragosa. We wiped once (a warm-up!) before pulling it together and beating down the frost wyrm. I think I was the only one dead at the end. Heh. I'll take it.
That left us to head on up and face the Lich King himself. It's... a complicated fight. We've seen phase one and the first transition. We need to actually survive through another transition as well as phase two and three, and deal with the different abilities therein.
I think we have an understanding of necrotic plague management at this point, which is key to the beginning, but our timing is a bit off. The last few attempts, we actually cleared out the horrors (leaving me with the plague to dump off completely), but it was happening when the boss' health was at about 74%, which leave enough time for him to summon another horror before hitting the transition point. If we could be a little slower, we'd still have a buffed plague to drop on the horror. A little faster, and we could push the transition with no horror up, which would be good.
I think we could manage the transition over if everyone were up and we weren't swamped by things from the first phase. The raging spirits are a pain, their silence ability probably making it best to have one tank round them all up, if that's survivable.
This definitely looks and feels to me like the "ultimate" fight for Wrath of the Lich King. It's long, complicated, and unforgiving. I really hope we can pull it together and beat him soon.
I'm a little saddened that we have only gotten this far with the Strength of Wrynn buff at 30%. I wonder how far we'd be without that. But I'm still thankful for the higher accessibility of raiding in this expansion. And as I think back to Burning Crusade, our guild was barely starting to push into Karazhan (the first raid of that expansion) about the time Blizzard lowered the difficulty there. We may not be a "serious" raiding guild, but we've definitely come a long way.
