(WoW) Report
Probably making slightly better time in the lower spire. We got started roughly a half hour late. We're showing consistency even against Saurfang and even with people who haven't been there everytime. That's good.
I worry a little about the time in the central citadel, though. I suppose it's a fair enough point to take a break, but we had a lot of people AFK immediately there. And the mini-bosses slow us down some. So it was almost 40 minutes to line up for Festergut. He went down in one this time, which is another good sign, though if the AVR overlays are accurate, we could still stand to get our close-range group (tank included) closer together.
Rotface is our particular challenge at the moment. There's a lot going on, which is true of many boss fights, but everyone is required to react to it, and that gets us. In "check" fights, we have a sense of how much harder we need to push with DPS or healing, or whatever. In coordination fights, it's really hard to know how well each person is getting "in the groove." I think people are getting a feel for the slime zones. I'm getting the feel for kiting the big ooze, though I'm still pondering what the best path is when a big chunk of the room is slimed and most of what's "ahead" of me is the read of the raid. I have the feeling most everyone else is going to have to get infected a time or two before they get a feel for what they need to do about it. Some people were cleansed early, some people didn't run out... and the hardest part of that process seems to me to be the beginning.
When the first person's infection goes away, a small ooze appears and goes after that person. It can't be taunted. When the second person's infection is cleared, they get the same deal. Those two oozes need to be led together, at which point they form a big ooze. That is where I can taunt and kite it. Further small oozes need to be led into the path of the big one to join with it. But for the first two people of each cycle, I can't do anything to help them. The best I can do is try to keep track of them and be ready for the big one. That's frustrating.
We peeked at Blood Princes, which almost sounds easier for our group in concept, but I didn't get a good feel for the mechanics at work on our one try. Time to peek at some videos.

Every time I read about your boss fights, I'm: @.@ Way too much going on. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, if you should ever wonder why I'm unimpressed by GW boss fights, that's pretty much why. ;) I'm accustomed to dealing with unique mechanics above and beyond "tank and spank" (though WoW has its share of those bosses too, raid bosses are usually more complex in some way).
ReplyDeleteTrue, but I doubt anyone could hope to hell to be able to beat a WoW boss by themselves (even if they had henchmen or heroes). I consider that a downside. ;)
ReplyDelete"Beat a boss by themselves" Uhm. Then why play a Massively-Multiplayer On-line game of any sort, chuckles? The point to instances and raids is to get a group of people together to deal with the content. It's the D&D dungeon crawl in video game form. You get your fighter, your cleric, your mage, your rogue and go stomp on things that are typically too tough for a solo combatant. I swear, your take on what makes a good MMO cuts out the MM part and there fore, may as well not even be the O
ReplyDeleteYou hook up with people when you want to, and if you don't want to, don't. Why should you be forced to team up with people to get stuff done? It should be an option, not a mandate.
ReplyDeleteI will never convince you the fallacy of this argument, and you'll never sway my opinion. This argument is concluded. Good day.
ReplyDeleteI say good day to you, sir! :D
