(WoW) Momentum
Sometimes I wonder if the guild will be able to "progress" through the harder content, when we have trouble filling a raid group or get put down repeatedly by a boss. Then again, there are times we get together and rock my socks off beyond expectations. I love my guild.
When we were only getting together an hour after our scheduled time (which might be a little early, granted), I wasn't expecting much. When the vocal people voiced an interest in going back into Icecrown Citadel, I might say I expected even less. There was some concern that we wouldn't be able to do the boss fights there with only two healers rather than three. Still, even just clearing some trash is worth it in my book, as the Ashen Verdict reputation ring is one of the few finger-slot upgrades I have to look forward to, so I'll gladly take the reputation.
Lord Marrowgar had stomped us before. He didn't disappoint this time, either. We wiped... three times? Four? Something like that. But we were visibly doing better, getting him down farther and farther each time. The aggro wipes at the end of the bone storms worried me a lot, since I perceived issues with that before, but we were pretty well able to grab him this time. And then everything clicked and we downed the boss - with everyone still standing, no less. Right there, we were beyond what I expected, and that's nothing short of awesome.
That set us up to progress to Lady Deathwhisper. It's a very add-heavy fight, which worried me. In fact, I got smashed by a mutated follower for something like 19k shadow damage in one hit. I think we wiped twice on her - again getting better each time. We were able to down each wave of adds pretty quickly, making them much easier than I anticipated. We were okay with trading off the boss in the second phase. She of the overly long speeches went down before us.
So we went up to rendezvous at the Skybreaker, equip rocket packs, laugh at the rocket-bottomed bear, practice a little, and watch our guildleader fling himself to his death not once but twice. o.o; We got into the famed airship battle and it was... different. The cannon-freezing happened faster than I expected. We had one person, from the looks of things, miss a jump and fall to his death between the ships. Otherwise, the hopping over seemed to go okay. I'm not quite sure where we fell apart the first time, but we held together on the second attempt and got through it.
The enemy boss is a little tricky, though. I'd jump over, hit him with a shield throw or taunt and yet partway through running to me he would go back to initial starting point, then take off after someone else. On one jump, I was pretty sure I had aggro, but he splatted our warlock. Hmm. Maybe that was a cleave-like ability? Still, very touchy.
That left us up against Deathbringer Saurfang, the final boss of that wing of the raid. He stomped us a few times before we gave up for the night. We're having some trouble taunt trading and moving - that much I can see. We got better, but still missed some of the debuff applications. I also had to hold back considerably by not using AOE abilities that might tag the blood beasts. I'm going to want to research this more before we go back, but I think it boils down to everyone needing more practice at their parts in the fight and the fact that we were getting tired and the hour late. The general concensus was to let the raid reset Tuesday, so we won't be jumping straight back to Saurfang, but further study wouldn't hurt.
Mail, cloth, caster plate, a bow... sadly, no drops that suited me, but some nice upgrades for some people. And I'm left with less than 500 rep to friendly with Ashen Verdict, so I might be able to get that ring next weekend if we go to ICC again. And on the whole, I'm very proud of the guild getting this far. :)

Sad there aren't more comments here >.> Oh well. Good times for the most part were had. Next week we can do it again plus more!
