Ongoing Tales
Having finally reached and spoken to the singer of the opera, the heroes found little more information to go on. Since the incident, she had been plagued by nightmares. She did sing the opening, though this seemed of little assistance, and recounted an encounter with a Vodacce man before the chaos. She was kind enough, though, to offer a coach ride back to town. Even this couldn't go uneventful, however.
Six dark-clad riders caught up with the carriage, and another figure lept onto it from a tree to knock out the driver. Thankfully, Sebastian was paranoid enough to be up there too. He kept the reins from getting away entirely and engaged the man - starting with a glancing pistol blast - while the other assailants rode into position to support their apparent leader.
Rufina and Phedre handled themselves reasonably well, harassing the one who had boarded the coach. The headbutt to the groin... ow. Yes, Rufina can fight dirty. Sylvia took a more aggressive approach which would have been lovely if the dice (or software number generator) had actually agreed with me. After a flailing swing at the nearest rider, she took a gunshot wound before leaping over to his horse. Unfortunately, it took another action before she was able to successfully unseat the rider.
By then, the fight had reached its conclusion - in the form of a fallen tree at a height to sheer the top off the carriage. The riders fell back, with the man from the top booting one off his horse and taking it. Sylvia (in my one good roll of the night)actually got her horse over the log while the others managed to duck under. So the Act winds down with the group again disheveled and/or wounded as they enter town.
At least selling the horse might pay for the medical bills. o.o;
