QWest: A comedy of (phone) errors
I'm not blessed with the greatest amount of foresight, but I can look ahead and plan. Really.
When moving, I was a little late in requesting a transfer of my phone line. It wasn't a big deal - just a couple days of waiting. In this time, it became clear to me I'd need a second line since DSL isn't available. Two Net users in residence make one line a hassle. So, possessing what foresight I do have, I figured I would wait until my primary line was switched over before requesting a second one. Less chance to mix things up, right?
Wrong. Well, my main number was switched over without hassle, at least. But, a week later I received an automated call saying the order had been completed. Okay. I switched things over to the handy-dandy splitter and got... no dial tone. After pondering options, I checked at my parent's house. Sure enough, they had installed the second line there. Erf. So I called QWest. The rep I spoke to was polite and seemed helpful, though it wasn't a good sign that he called up the records and said "This is a mess." So, finally, he issued another work order. Estimated time to complete: a week. Well, they're allowed to screw up once in a while, right?
Murphy's Law was still in effect. Last night, I got another automated 'work complete' message and tried the second line only to get... nothing. So I called again and spoke with another polite, helpful rep. It seems, for reasons unknown, the corrected work order from the previous time had been cancelled. He also said the computer system was telling him it was installed at my new address (though a tech support test confirmed that was wrong) and wouldn't let him change it. So, he issued a work order for a *third* line in order to get around that restriction while making notations in the account of what was going on and that this third line really needs to be the second line. @.@ Oy. How long will that take? Oh, about a week.
So what should have taken one week has taken more than two and will take at least three - assuming they get it right this time. And while this isn't a *huge* problem, it's certainly annoying

And that would be a factor in why I'm feeling down. There are others, but waiting is always a pain in the ass.
