I hadn't given Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem much thought until I saw a review that talked it up. Then I thought about how I have previously enjoyed ARPG games (even if Diablo 3 fell a little flat), so I took a closer look... only to see it practically imploding on initial release. Heh. There are pluses and minuses to reviews based on pre-release builds. It seem like a game that might be worth playing after the developers have a chance to patch bugs and stabalize servers.
Ironically, perhaps, I think if I had really followed it since its inception, I may be upset as it has changed much from the original Kickstarter pitch.
Instead, I grabbed up Grim Dawn, another ARPG that seemed to have a decent reputation and was available for less than $10. For that level of buy-in, I suppose I don't feel cheated, but it's unimpressive.
The game works fine, I guess. It has a bare-bones story told through the missions that drive you through the zones and the occasional dropped texts, but I found nothing particularly charming or interesting about it. ARPGs perhaps blossom more in post-story play, but my run through the campaign and up to level 42 or so showed me nothing particularly outstanding in the way of ability combinations or gear. I suppose I was lucky to find a rare belt that let me dual-wield pistols when I wanted to do that but was unable (I think a DLC class might get that without gear), but that meant hanging on to that item for over half my time with the game. Most of the other stuff was interchangeable, though, and just sort of there.
I am perhaps not the target demographic for ARPGs these days, and one could argue I'm not giving a fair shake unless I play for X dozens of hours, but I can't rate it much more than a passable to way to click through time.
While giving Wolcen some further time to "bake," I poked back through my library and installed Assassin's Creed Unity - something received for free with some Ubisoft offer a while back. It's a bit awkward to use a PS4 controller through UPlay (which has controller support, but is designed for XBox controllers), but otherwise seems okay so far...
FurryFaire RP has been in a lull for a while now and... well... I don't know. I don't miss it as much as I thought I would?
MUCK-based interactions have been approaching zero for the last couple months, since certain people shifted more interest to Discord. The last week or two there has been pretty quiet for me as one plot I was involved in wound down and schedules pulled in various directions.
Dalianna exists, but I don't seem to be present often enough to keep up with the most active group of players. And that leaves rare options for actually doing anything.
That's disappointing on one level, but it isn't hugely burdening my psyche (which, in itself, is something that could bother me if I let it).
