Ah, Post-Halloween Slump

The only thing on my maybe-to-do list that didn't get finished for the Mandalorian outfit was knee-caps. I feel fine without, though they could be added. And having a blaster drives home the need for a sling, or at least a strap to hang it with. Otherwise, my thoughts from wearing the suit all day include:
- Well, this is doable. A bit restrictive and not totally comfortable, but doable.
- Putting on a helmet really makes me wish I didn't wear glasses these days.
- The helmet still has some issue with fogging up with even a little bit of exertion.
- While not hot, per se, it's definitely more comfortable to wear in October. If I'd worn it at that Denver ComiCon in the summer, I might have passed out from heat stroke before getting into the convention center and wearing it in there certainly would have been inconvenient as well. That's a little disheartening.
- The boots threaten to give blisters, though that might be partly because they get worn so rarely.
So there are a couple bits of touching-up I should do before I pack the outfit away and I may want to modify the blaster with a nylon strap and clip to attach it to, but that's about it.

This leaves me pondering whether to get into any other costume. It would be nice to have something that's a more wearable, particularly during warmer months, but what? I don't think N7 armor would qualify. Some of the work got me pondering a more fantasy-ish outfit, but again - going into plated armor would likely have the same issues and something like chain is a lot of work.
A steampunk plague doctor still has some appeal. It would be less work, but finding appropriate clothing that fits is always a challenge. And I'm not sure it would be any better on the temperature/wearability front when you get down to it.
I'm rather partial to the idea of a mask/helmet in general, though that comes with the complications of glasses and ventilation. I also like the idea of doing something with LEDs and an Arduino or something, though that might be biting off more than I really want to chew.

Or maybe I should just clean my living room, which is a terrible mess of a work area right now. Heh.

Out of just this last round of costume work, I managed to re-learn a little bit of manual sewing.
I also was introduced to Apoxie Sculpt - which is a little annoying as it's almost exactly the sort of thing I was looking for when I was working on the blaster a few months back. It's a two-part epoxy, so it doesn't require heat to set and it doesn't shrink. It's adhesive/sticky for about half an hour and moldable not unlike clay for a fair bit longer. It sets fully rigid/sandable in about a day. And it's not as expensive as "green stuff." Somehow, I couldn't find this stuff when I was looking for it, but it's a neat "tool" to have now.

  1. Did you get any pics of the full outfit this year?

    1. You wouldn't think it would be so difficult, and yet...
I swung by Nina's work at lunch, but no one was thinking "photo op." I did stop at the photo "booth" out front after work, but didn't see the results 'til later, and it's not a full-body shot. My bathroom mirrors are too closer for anything like that, too. Overall, it's remarkably difficult. Maybe I need to get her over for just long enough to take a few shots before I pack it up...
