WoW: Legion
So... the next expansion has been announced and teased. I will admit, the whole thing sounds much more appealing to me than Warlords of Draenor did.
Honestly, going through the feature list, it sounds like Blizzard up and decided to do as much as they could of what people have been asking for. That's... weird. Examples?
- More unique class experiences (with artifact weapons and order halls)
- The return of the Burning Legion
- Demon Hunter class
- Weapons that have bearing on alt-form druids
- The Emerald Dream (at least in part)
- Azshara and nagas
- Alleria and Turalyon
I don't know what to think of that. It sounds... good? Is it enough to draw people back in and keep them there? That remains to be seen. It's early yet. They speak of a beta by the end of the year, which doesn't make me think the actual release is any closer than 6-10 months away.
A lot is made of the Tomb of Sageras as a major pre-release event that makes it sound more like it might almost be a raid tier prior to the expansion, though it probably won't go quite that far.
Lots of questions this early. FFXIV has given a glimpse of how artifact weapons could possibly work, but those versions often fall by the wayside of drops. Keeping these lore-heavy weapons relevant could probably only be done by phasing out other weapons, making them more a permanent class feature than an item. That seems like a huge step to make. On the other hand, it seems silly to lay down Ashbringer come the next raid tier (or expansion).
Then again, I remember the Path of the Titans, which never made it into the game. It's possible some of this stuff won't pan out at all. We'll see, I guess...
Edit: Well, a few little questions have been answered. They are focusing entirely on the artifact weapons for this expansion at least, with no weapon drops. That's more commitment to the concept than I expected. And demon hunters starting at the 95-100 level range being discussed...
