Ah, what to say. I'm feeling more "normal" this week, if still waiting to see how pay will shake out at work. Reading a book that'll get a post when I'm done. Planning to take a train ride Saturday.
WoW is what it is. I've gone into greater detail before, but the lack of any practically-attainable goals and waning group activity seriously limits my interest. We finished off heroic 10-man Lich King Saturday and that's about it. That felt a little bittersweet, revisiting the site of probably out height of raiding now that things seem at pretty much their lowest point since for the guild. For now, I'm just making my lightning-infused ingots and now worrying about it.
GW2 hasn't sparked much to talk about either. There was some big, dramatic discussion over guild representation that just sort of petered out with no real conclusion or concensus from what I saw. I've found the Living Story stuff hard to get into, and while the Super Adventure Box is cute, I haven't gotten further along in it. With a group, it felt slow but amusing. Alone it just bored me.
I've gotten back into playing some Skyrim, which I never really finished (as in, finishing the main quest chain) before. I've also dabbled in playing some Far Cry 3. I'm not really far enough in that to feel right rendering an overall verdict. It feels a lot like "Skyrim with guns," but there are more scripted, cinematic parts. That adds something, but it also feels a bit awkward to me from first person and in what's otherwise mostly an "open world" environment. I sort of wonder why I never heard this game criticized over who quickly the lead goes from startled victim to mass murderer, as was said about Tomb Raider. Odd. The most memorable thing about the game thusfar, though, has been the suddenly tiger! moments of vicious animal attacks whilst creeping to a target or moving to circle human enemies.
And... that seems about it right now.

Skyrim has 'suddenly bear!' moments, for yet another comparison between Far Cry 3 and Skyrim
ReplyDeleteTechnically, I suppose, but I never had the same experiences. Hmm. I think the ability (and thus "need") to tag FC3 targets and the ability for wildlife to hide better in the grass led to more common situations where I'd be so tunnel-visioned trying to pick out what bad guys are patrolling the outpost before me that I wouldn't notice anything until "rawrnom!" In Skyrim, I may suddenly stumble across something, but it was rare for anything to blindside me like that.
