Ringing in the New Year
Ups and downs to that. I spent most of the evening/day feeling pretty darn down, though I think I'm managing to shake that off. Is that more brief than usual? Hmm...
Finished my first play-through of XCom: EU. My earlier impressions hold true for the most part, though I would add a few thoughts. The pressure eases off considerably as the game goes on. While you run into more difficult enemies, the better gear that's unlocked helps. Satellite coverage increases income and cuts down on abduction missions. Research and development time ramps up. Seriously, before I hit the alien base, I felt lucky to get through four uninterrupted days of research and I was constantly worried about panic levels. Afterward, that all tapered off and I finished the game without the loss of any member nations. I think I'm going to have to be more cautious on the next difficulty level, though.
We actually raided on Saturday in WoW. That is to say we had ten people who made some attempts at the first raid boss of the tier. Some improvement, but no success. We've got one on-again, off-again guild member who could be an awesome field leader if he actually knew how to say things succinctly and didn't feel the need to make a point when someone says something else. Our taunt-trading improved, and I trust my judgement relatively well now. I think people were avoiding most of the bad stuff, as our final attempt held out for five minutes. But we only put out about half the total damage we need 5/7ths of the way to the enrage limit. And this on a fight that I haven't seen considered to be much of a DPS check. So if we're ever going to make forward progress there, something needs to pick up. Maybe we should do Dragon Soul for legendary dagger bits? Dunno...
Nothing much to mention with GW2. My "scheduled" Sunday play time is usually either helping with someone else's personal story quests or dailies (which do benefit me, but not by much).
