(WoW) Protection Paladin Pre-Raid Gearing


So let's see... Options include:

- A bunch of gear available at revered with various factions that sells for valor points. That's going to be slow-going, though, as I'm not going to be capping VP weekly for a while and each piece is something like 1250 to 2250.
- There are some good options from what looks like faction-based quest chain endings in certain zones. I'm not sure of all the requirements, but I suspect you need to be revered with the factions for those quest chains to open up, still this makes them probably more available than the VP gear.
- There are a few crafted options at item level 450. That seems to be the "gearing up for heroics" stage. There's less at 463 and up, though. As for seriously pre-raid stuff, the only ones I can remotely count on use living steel, and it's going to be a while before we see much of that.
- I think I can rule out BOEs at this point, as the world drops will just be too expensive and luck to get one myself isn't likely..
- Heroic dungeon drops are... remarkably lackluster in comparison, actually. 463 rares are overshadowed by most everything else, though given the time to acquire some of the other stuff I'm sure some of them will be desireable for a while yet. It seems ironic to me that the soloable (if time-consuming) stuff is better in general.

Crafted shields are a strange stand-out. They're a step above most craftable rares, on par with heroic drops, but there are so few alternatives (one heroic drop of each sort), so that seems just as well.
Enchant: Greater Parry
Weapon: Ook's Hozen Slicer (Ook-Ook, SB) or Inelava, Spirit of Inebriation (476, Yan-Zhu the Uncasked, SB)
Enchant: Seem be be choices. Probably either River's Song or Colossus.

Gems: Looks like Solid (stamina) for blue, Puissant (mastery/stamina) for yellow and Defender (stamina/parry) or Guardian (stamina/expertise) for red.

    To even get into heroics takes 440 average item level, in case you've not tried yet. So far I don't even have that without cheating (The pvp-themed crafted gear) to boost ilvl.

    And they're just now (today? tomorrow?) bumping JP gear to 458 and dropping Honor Point gear to 458 because it was 464 and people were using that to "cheat" the level requirements. And they already removed the rep requirements for JP gear. I'd like to hit up some more normal modes/scenarios before heroics anyway. It's useful to see things in their pre-heroic state to understand, and at least the arena scenario (which may have an ilvl requirement higher than I'm at) has a quest associated that rewards with a 450 weapon, so others might have some decent stuff as well.

Adventures in Rokugan (ongoing)

 So, yeah, I'm terrible at keeping up with between-session conversations and all the piles of possible channels/servers in Discord - especially when work gives me some time to think, but not Discord access. Harbinger of Chaos (Godbound)

 Last night seemed to be the climactic finale of the ongoing Godbound game. I have some thoughts. The previous session ended with a couple PCs and a shadowy person in the special chamber with access to divine realms and their vacated thrones (in the campaign, the gods were sorta kicked out of their positions, making things up for grabs). Once PC had already claimed a throne. All the others were waiting outside. At the moment the session ended, no one seemed aware that the shadowy figure was Beryn, big-bad threat of the campaign. This is where I feel weird about things, because that little detail came up OOC and it changed everything. If the PCs had been aware at the time, they probably would have started a fight outside the chamber when they saw him. That didn't happen. But suddenly because the players were aware, they wanted to be able to plan before the conflict (with downtime glossed over previous) so they could go into the next session guns-blazing and as prepared as possible.

RPG Desires?

 So I was asked last night what I actually want in an RPG game/campaign. I came up with a few points, but that's a question I find hard to answer on the spot. It's easy to point at things in an ongoing game that I don't like, and a little harder to point at things I do (darn negative-focused psychology), but making generalizations is more difficult still. It does, however, give me something to focus a little on and ramble about for a time... Story I like a narrative through line - not usually to the point of "railroading," but I want more connective tissue than just returning to a job board after each mission. Sometimes that develops as things go, with character goals shaping things. Setting an end goal at the outset ("defeat the demon lord!") can have ups and downs.
