So Let's See...
I was worried about having enough people to do anything Saturday night in WoW, but folks did trickle in and we set off to stomp through Firelands. Pushed a little harder and took a few more risks on trash (and used cooldowns more), but I don't recall any deaths. Rhyolith gave us a little bit of trouble, but he's so quick to turn these days. Little trouble otherwise before getting to Ragnaros. With one person pugged, we gave it a few attempts and did better on average than before, but we still didn't really get past the beginning of the second transition at best.
I know some people bristle under all the advice coming from those couple people who have done it. Me, I just felt some objective amusement at how they started off with the attitude of "it's not that hard, you just have to do it" and finished the night saying something closer to "well, it's still one of the trickiest fights around." It looks like we may be saving that lock and trying for a Ragnaros kill next week, which I have mixed feelings about (even assuming success). Pros: we'd have a Rags kill, we'd have people who have seen the whole fight, we'd have access to heroic Firelands bosses (though I doubt we'd do more than Shannox maybe). Cons: we'd be locked out of a week's worth of FL essences toward Dragonwrath, players may lose motivation to do FL for Dragonwrath/etc., and if we don't succeed it's likely to just be a long and annoying night. We'll see.
Not much more to add about TSW from the free weekend. You can only learn so much about an MMO over the course of a few hours. I'm actually sort of surprised at how bothered I am by seeing my character being silent (and largely unresponsive) in otherwise dialogued/acted cut scenes. SWTOR is probably the best I've seen. GW2, so far as I've seen, is somewhere between - your character responds in full voice, but there isn't any real illusion of player choice in it. At least that lets me feel like my character is a person in the world rather than some empty shell.
Had dinner at my parents' place Sunday, which was nice. Lots of rain as it got dark driving back, though. They will be off Park-sitting in Texas (I think it was) for a few months later in the year. As that will encompass the holidays... we'll have to see how things go, but a get-together for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas seems unlikely.
I finally kicked my tail into getting out and going for a couple light hikes over the weekend. A bit on the hot side, but it was good. I really do need to get out more, and it's already August. Bleh. Lazy me.
