That would be Not My Sandbox Syndrome, a label I'll ascribe here to a psychological reluctance to mess with things not of one's own creation. It came up recently in some conversations that I don't "run" much on FurryFaire. A couple scenes in sequence with very little plotline and involving only a PC or two? Sure, I do that maybe a couple times a week. Any longer continuity, any wider influence on the setting, and I pretty much skip it. Why? A lot of reasons, actually, some of which I may discuss in most depth later. Inspiration is fleeting and fickle - I can't just conjure up applicable ideas at will, but its easier to manage in this area if there are other things going on to play off of. Time can be tricky - I have had numerous scenes fall by the wayside because when I was interested in pursuing them people weren't around or something else required my attention. My GMing skills, especially online, have waned - I have enough trouble wrangling two or ...
Necro'ing a thread here but today I had a series of some vivid dreams myself today and wanted to put them down before they faded entirely into the aether. First was a dream about being a samurai escorting an imperial son into effectively a "dive". While in this bar he was going to meet with some representatives of a family with a shady reputation. Then a bar fight broke out so I got him out of there. He then told me his half-brother was still inside and fighting, so, doing my duty, I had to go back and get him. By the time I did, however, the fighting was over and he was gone. So I bought some sake and began to investigate. The dream sort of tapered off from there unfortunately. Second dream was sort of nautical/pirate themed, dealing with a port city shanty town. I've lost a lot of details by now unfortunately. :( I seem to recall there was also some 'county faire' elements to it. Third was again in sort of a 'poor quarters' district during a police riot. It was combining Les Miserables with modern day riot gear and vehicles. >.> the main character who I was at one point, then watching at another, was a wanted man and hiding in among the contacts he had with the merchants and poor. Some police guy then came out to threaten that his wife would hang in his place if he didn't come out. things were going to escalate from there, but I was woken up.
