Weekend Gaming
Wrrf. Gold difficulty on ME3 multiplayer is rough. I lucked out last time. Trying for the individual goal to get a commendation pack this weekend, I entered probably half a dozen gold matches before actually succeeding at the goal: a full extraction. Of the others, one was a partial and the others were outright failures at some stage. On the other hand, I feel like I can hold my own pretty well on silver now, though I still find silver/gold matches to be something of a crapshoot. Depending on map, random objectives, and other players, it isn't hard to get into a position that pretty much just isn't winnable by any one factor.
After a weekend off, we got back into raiding on WoW. There still seems to be a little tension over who's on the roster, but no bitching was brought to me, at least. We prodded Dragon Soul again. Morchok is straightforward - we've been able to do that fight for a long while. I believe this was our first real attempt at Yor'Sahj, and he went down without too much difficulty though there is some random element there.
Zon'ozz, however, is currently a roadblock for us. Predictably, it's a fight not about DPS or gear, but execution. And we're getting stymied by two issues, either of which is enough to fail the fight. First, the behavior of Void of the Unmaking (aka "the ball") seems to be mystifying all of us. The concept is simple enough, but exactly how/when/where it registers a "hit" to bounce from is giving us trouble. Second, our group coordination sucks. We can get one or two people to perform specific duties just fine, but when we need four or five people to move together at the same time... not so much. It seems like there's an inevitable person (and not even the same person every time) who lags or isn't paying attention at just the precise moment it matters. Until we have some alignment of stars or sudden understanding, we're not getting any deeper into that raid.
We also stomped through Baradin Hold and downed a few bosses in Firelands. Though our fearless leader forgot to drain the essence out of one boss and Rhyolith killed us a few times. I'm not sure what to attribute the latter to, exactly. Did we hit all the volcanos? No. Do we ever? No. So I don't think that's what was killing us, but my perspective on the fight is limited. I may poke at the logs and see if I can figure anything out there.
Overall, I'm not displeased with the accomplishments of the night. We had some relatively new raiders involved and still did pretty well. It'd be nice to get farther along in Dragon Soul, but we have to figure out how to handle Zon'ozz. Next week, we might have extra hoops to jump through in Firelands (if we want to) for another person on the legendary staff quests (even if the end result of our first one is still a long ways off).
I understand there's a GW2 "stress test" this evening, though I don't know if I'm going to bother with that. Not enough time to learn much new about the game, and deliberate stress testing is likely to involve instability.
