Well...
I'm still a sucker for certain types of stories. Reading the description of The Book of Bantorra, I really didn't know what to make of this anime. But I watched the first four episodes and was pretty well blown away by the story arc therein. It appears that's the conclusion of the particular tale that caught my attention, though I'll probably watch more of the series at some point.
The overall tone and setting of the series itself is much different, but the particular sub-story reminds me of threads I've seen in Tenchi Muyo and El Hazard.
Once in a while, I can actually be sappy...

Watched the first episode, curious what led you to discovering this series.
ReplyDeleteHappenstance? I was reading something on Anime News Network, I think, that mentioned a couple episodes of a completely different series available for viewing on Crunchyroll. Being less-than-busy at work, I bounced over there and ended up looking around to see what was viewable in the "fantasy" and "sci-fi" categories. The write-up for this series sounded strange enough that it wasn't a first-pick (the lives of the dead turn into books, what?), but after watching a couple episodes of other things, I came back to it as just interesting enough to try. And through that string of chance, I come across what strikes me as one of the more unique and interesting series I've seen in a long time. The short arcs are interesting - often tragic, but there are elements of hope. The series plays with chronology - it's easy to do flashbacks with how the "books" work, but the first arc also involves precognition. There are threads of conspiracy in the complex relationship between Library and Church (that I fear might not be fully explores, but they're interesting so far). Overall, it's way better than I expected. And Hamyuts' attitude actually makes me think of Jhazza (albeit pushed a little farther over the edge).
ReplyDeleteAnd here I was looking for Jerecs or Doves >.> I'll watch some more in a moment.
