(WoW) Lack of Momentum
After rocking our way through most of the first wing of Icecrown Citadel last weekend, I think tonight was disappointing. Things began inauspiciously when, after scheduling an hour later, we still ended up waiting almost an hour for everyone to be there and ready. Sometimes offline delays are inevitable.
On the up side, we did clear Flame Leviathan and Razorscale in Ulduar for the weekly raid quest. That was pretty easy, and took maybe half an hour to do both. So then we went back to ICC and, in clearing trash, several of us hit Friendly with the Ashen Verdict faction - which meant ring upgrades.
Then things went south. We triggered one giant skeleton, and while fighting it set off two others. Somehow, that always seems to happen, even with a rogue scouting. Then we had trouble getting past them. It worked better when we decided to dual-tank them, as they seem to have a saber lash-like effect split between two targets.
So we finally got up to Lord Marrowgar and... wiped repeatedly. We got him below 3m health in at least one attempt, but not much lower. Some claim was that two healers really isn't enough to be doing that fight, but it worked last weekend. We had one or two less-experienced people compared to last week, but I don't see that it really made a difference. Maybe the stars just aligned last week. The spikes and flames and bone storms just seemed to time such that we would lose a healer and things would unravel. Some people scared me by running around by us tanks - one actually "misjudged distance" and did run up, suck saber lash damage, and die.
So we closed the night unable to replicate our progress in Icecrown Citadel. That's disappointing, but not incredibly surprising. Part of why I wanted to start over was to see if we could - and it appears we need a measure of luck and/or focus that we don't always have to get through these fights. Not fun, but it's sort of good to know.
