Okay With a Side of Random
Database replication is working again this morning. Monday night would probably not have been such a flop if I'd remembered a step, but alas. At least my notes are updated now, and things are back to normal pretty much. It's a load of stress off my mind.
And... does anyone know where I can find a good, expansive gallery of RPG character designs?
I'm mostly thinking JRPGs, the home pages of which tend to have a "characters" page with images - nothing fancy, but it dawned on me that some of the costume designs are pretty neat and good for borrowing/inspiration. The problem, of course, being I'm not aware of any site that has these images from multiple games in anything approaching a convenient manner. I remember, long ago, a gallery site that compiled images of video game characters, but most of those were from more popular fighting games. Sadly, my Google-fu has not turned any such things up immediately and such a thing may simply not exist in a form I want due to copyrights or something. Still, I thought I'd throw the question out to my fellow internet folk.

My Google-fu reveals these facts: 1) there are not many "shrines" to certain games any more. Video game resources are relegated to places like Kotaku, 1up, gamespot, etc. 2) Most topics of outfits in JRPGs are forum discourse, often without links or images. 3) the "JRPG forumla" are androgenous characters, bishonen and the like, with impractical outfits. Final Fantasies are notorious for this. http://www.mania.com/aodvb/blog.php?b=1758 http://www.destructoid.com/blogs/jackal27/you-re-doing-it-wrong-jrpg-character-design-101654.phtml http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/kotaku/2008/12/squenix-character-design.jpg Some links anyway. The first might give you a list of people to google on their own to see for images of character design sheets, and hopefully branch into other characters from the same game. Also, cosplay photos.

ReplyDeleteYeaaaaah. This is harder with more obscure games, too. The best resource I've found thusfar is http://www.rpgfan.com/pics.html. Of course, what artwork is available for these games is very hit-and-miss. Some of it's just scenery, while some actually has characters. Hmm... possible angel/winged pose references: http://www.rpgfan.com/pics/tempest/art.html
ReplyDeleteCat has a bunch she might be able to share with you, toss her an e-mail.
