(WoW) Looking Ahead

Reading through some patch notes for 3.2 - none of that stuff is really final yet, they're not even testing on the PTR this early.

- Lower-level mounts and faster base flying speed. Nift. I feel a little cheated, for having done this "the hard way," but it makes it faster and easier to level.
- Block value is getting boosted (doubled from items, except base value on shields).
- Lots of paladin stuff that I'm not sure how to feel about yet. Positive change to Ardent Defender. Exorcism is getting a casting time (though an Art of War proc will let it be instant-cast). Seal of the Martyr is being taken out. And a slew of other stuff.
- Target casting bars will indicate if a spell can be interrupted. That's neat.
- Drakes in Oculus will scale with worn item level.
- New 5-man dungeon. Yay!
- New 10-man and 25-man raid... that also has a heroic verion of each. That's a change from Wrath's approach where there's a 10-man raid and the heroic version is 25-man. These will drop a new Emblem of Triumph, for a new tier of gear.
- New and expanded stuff at the Argent Tournament. Yay.

Then what blew my mind:

- Any dungeons that previously dropped Emblems of Heroism or Valor, such as Naxxramas or Heroic Halls of Stone, will now drop Emblems of Conquest instead. Emblems of Conquest can still be converted to Valor or Heroism.

That blows me away right there. If that remains, after 3.2 we'll be able to run the same heroic dungeons we have been and working toward purchase of gear that is, right now, only accessible via 10-man Ulduar hard mode and 25-man Ulduar. Tier 8, Conquerers', gear (at least a few pieces, and comparable non-set items in other slots)...
Of course, they'll be introducing tier 9 sets, so it won't be the top end anymore, but that still means it's possible to gear for entry-level of the new raids through 5-man heroics. I suspect if I were an active raider in Ulduar now, I might feel a little cheated. Since I'm not, though, this looks potentially awesome.

And...
-The Heroic dungeon daily quest will now reward 2 Emblems of Triumph and the normal daily dungeon quest will reward 1 Emblem of Triumph.

So... tier 9 gear (if perhaps not all of it) will be available too, albeit slowly. Potentially 3 EoT a day for running a couple dungeons, one on heroic. Rawr!
The developers had commented they don't want 5-man dungeons to become entirely obsolete. I guess that's one way to do it.

  2. No way to go from Heroism to Conquest though I'm sure. Ahh well. I am about halfway to my T7 chest... not sure there's much sense in continuing to save after 3.2 comes out. Just buy whatever you can or are close to (convert a few maybe) and then get to saving for T8/9.

  3. Yeah... been looking at things a little differently with that in mind. The Emblems can be traded down, but not up. There are a few things that aren't at higher tiers, oddly. - There are some good trinkets for Emblems of Heroism, but if I saw correctly, not for Valor or Conquest. - Emblems of Valor can get you some rings, but there aren't any at Conquest level. So... I'm close to enough to get Sash's tier 7 chest for Retribution. If 3.2 were right around the corner, I might instead blow those emblems on trinkets now. Since it's not even on the PTR and, if things don't change outright, it's likely to be a couple months or so until it hits live, I'll probably pick up the chest anyway and then go for the trinkets after. This does me I probably won't set my sights on the tier 7 gloves, though. I'll probably just skip those altogether. At least in the case of Protection, there's sorta sidegradey anyway. >.>

  4. I'm afraid I gave up the game recently. Deleted it off the computer. I don't miss it. Losing City of Heroes hurts more, but in that case it's missing the community more.
