Quantum of Solace

Okay, but not as enjoyable to me as Casino Royale was. There's continuance to the story and furthering of character development, though the later has little immediate impact. I've seen it said that it's the middle of a planned "trilogy" that will make Craig's James Bond a complete character (who can be used in further stories) and it does has something of that feel - it doesn't stand quite so well on its own.

As made clear by the initial car chase, there's some hectic editing going on here. Action sequences use cameras that are close and mobile, giving everything a jerky, chaotic feel. Personally, I like to actually be able to see what's going on sometimes, thanks.

There's still no Q and no gadgets (cell phones, fancy displays, and tracking devices aren't so far out there to merit that name), but there are a number of nods to older Bond conventions. Female forms are back in the intro sequence (yet, oddly, the gun barrel view doesn't come 'til the end credits). Quantum could be shaping up to be a darker, more secretive version of SPECTRE.

A few other thoughts of note:
- It's good to see you can show a scar and expect people to pick up on that without directly addressing it.
- If someone comments that your fuel cells don't sound stable, they probably aren't and you really shouldn't be using them.
- "When people say 'we've got people everywhere' you expect it to be hyperbole. Florists say that." Probably not an exact quote, but an awesome line.

Recommendations: If you liked Casino Royale and want to see where it's going, watch it. If you're just after an action movie, it's probably worth watching. If you feel Casino Royale was borderline to worth watching or was completely the wrong direction for the franchise, skip it.
