Holy...
... dark movies, Batman!
Just got back from watching The Dark Knight. Wow. All the recommendations and rave reviews were right. Dark, but amazing. Heath Ledger made one hell of a Joker. Let me try a relatively simple and spoiler-free approach here.
What's bad about the movie? I have serious doubts about the ability of any sequel to follow this intensity. Seriously, I don't know how they can make a sequel without falling flat in comparison.
And... yeah, I think that's about it. Oh, I might be able to nitpick a few things here and there, but it's a comic book world. You overlook things like villains being able to set up a scene perfectly in advance. My socks have been suitably rocked, and that was definitely worth a little entertainment splurge.

Your review pretty much clinches it. Think I'll go see it tomorrow (Both you _and_ Brad said that it was amazing... and that's a broad spectrum of review ;) ). You're probably right about a sequel living up to something that seems to be this great - that might be why they resorted to neon-tommy guns and and roving gangs of blacklight enthusiasts after "Batman Returns".
ReplyDeleteAh yes, the neon tommy guns... I hope they don't end up doing that this time around. Hmm. As I think about it more, there might be room to go in a direction with Catwoman. But while she could make a good foil for Batman in some ways, there would definitely have to be another "main" villain, and that's a tough slot to fill after Ledger's Joker. I can't think of any other villains that are close to that unhinged, and even a calculating "mastermind" type wouldn't challenge Batman on the same level. Double-hmm... But I suppose any further theorizing might get me into spoiler territory. :)
