Anti-BLITEOTW?

Blog Like It's The End Of The World, huh? Zombie apocalypse? Eh. I can't really do that. Oh, I've thought about it and roleplayed characters through it to a small degree, but I had too much trouble putting myself in the scenerio.

Part of that, I think, is that I think too much about it. I can usually accept whatever particular variation of zombie for the length of a given movie, but not much longer. If they're frenzied living, you can probably get away with treating it like a riot/infectious disease outbreak. If they're walking dead, there's all sorts of questions of biology and physics. Why does a bite or scratch infect? Why do they want to eat brains in the first place?

Other than that... well, I lack the skill set and drive to be a real survivor. There was a time I was more idealistic in general and I probably would have struggled against death. Now? I don't know. If the world's going to hell in a handbasket, I'm just not sure I want to live through to see the results. Could I wake up everyday alone? Could I survive in a group? Could I face the moral and logical choices that would almost surely come up in weighing lives and supplies versus risk in any hostile-things-that-might-kill-you apocalypse, zombie or otherwise? I don't know that it's something I could handle, and the alternative is to think of how I might die. That's just morbid.

The topic does make me wish I remembered the link to some stories pointed out to me a while back - written from the point of view of a survivor (I think in Canada). Otherwise, some things that come to mind are Rework the Dead (done by the creator of Jack), a particularly bleak comic of a furry world gone zombie apocalypse. That setting was especially rough because (as in some others) everyone was infected. If someone died, in a manner that didn't physically prevent it, they became a zombie whether nibbled or not. Additionally, if I recall, the population's live birthrate had dropped to nil, so there was really no hope of outlasting to rebuild society. I've also happened across Highschool of the Dead, a manga which has some interesting thoughts, if being rather heavy on the fanservice.

So no writing like it's the end of the world for me, thanks. Seriously, if something like that went down, I wouldn't take the time to blog about it.

On another note, MGS 4 continues. I'm into Act 2 and glad to see the whole game doesn't take place in the same desert towns. Did I mention lots of cut scenes? And there are loading times beyond just the initial one - something I thought the technology was a little ahead on - but the game is pretty enough to excuse it. I think I need to work on my patience and stealth skills, but shooting down a helicopter was satisfying. I've yet to see an actual boss fight, though...
