Yay, Stable Internet Connection!
One of the annoyances at the hotel was an inability to get a steady wireless connection with my laptop. That's probably due in part to the age/quirkiness of the computer itself, but I could barely keep connected long enough to check mail. Mrrf.
Other than that, things went fairly well. We really only had one full day to poke around town - plus some hours before social gatherings we mostly spent resting. The wedding itself was nice, held at the Temple of Music and Art - something of a mission-style theater. It was warm starting out, but not unbearably so, and the weather actually got quite relaxing later.
A few little things:
- Seriously, I'm not THAT anti-social. I sat down first, it's not my fault all the near-but-not-quite-wedding-party people went to the other table. ;.;
- That G6 is nice. Sweet car. Not like I could afford one, but... nice anyway.
- Roadtrips remind me of how incredible the highway system is.
- Saw the results of two accidents and we were diverted well around a third, that's more than usual for a trip.
- We managed to avoid the skunk crossing the road. Silly skunkie.
- Tucson seems to be sorely lacking in stores selling roleplaying games. There was a game store that had some in the Tucson Mall, and I tracked down (after some work) Hat's Games, which had lots of miniature stuff, but almost no RPGs. Just sad.
Costs: Right around $300 for the room, $300 for the car rental, $150 total in gas, plus a few meals. Unfortunately, there's the reason why I don't get out on trips like this more often.
Glad t'hear you got home safe. Look forward to hearing more detail later
ReplyDeleteGlad you're back safe! Did you get pictures of the accidents? ;)
ReplyDeleteUmm... no? ;) Actually we didn't even get a really good look at most of them. Never saw the one outside Tucson, just the traffic backed up for miles and detoured off the highway. The one in Tucson... hmm... well, it was getting dark and I'd just dropped Nina off so I didn't have her camera to even consider it. The one on the outskirts of Cortez... again, it was dark and by the time they let us through, I only saw one car - which didn't have any real damage I could see aside from at least two flat tires - but I suspect there was more involved.
ReplyDeletePfft. Silly boy. I know I was busy, but if you'd asked I could have spent two minutes telling you where to go for RPG stuff. Things for Thinkers is *the* place (alas, on the east side of town). The Tucson Mall store isn't bad, it just doesn't carry much you'd consider "off the beaten path." And R Galaxy is a comics-anime-and-sometimes-gaming that's had different stock every time I've been in there. Damn, now you've got me missing gaming again. :(
