Only in Your Dreams
Odd dream this afternoon that made more sense (in it's own way) than usual.
In a Musketeering era (with elements of romance, revenge, and intrigue that I was vaguely aware of), a man was fulfilling some prophecy that involved rescuing a wounded animal and being at the city docks at night with a metal trash can. He knew he was supposed to use this trash can as some sort of boat, but without any real idea how or where he was going. Then a figure stepped out of the shadows behind, shooting him in the back with a pistol. He fell into the trash can, which in turn rolled off into the water, drifting away... But this was okay, because he survived, the evil consortium thought him dead, and he would return with the freedom to act behind the scenes as he was believed dead.
Then I was a GM outside the game, talking to the players about the scene and asking how much longer they wanted to play the campaign so as to gauge how much work I needed to do. It seemed as though we were in college dorms, although I stepped from one room to another without going through the hall.
Then there was the return of the character to a homeland that believed him dead. In a bit of Warcraft-influence, he saw a group of ogres off to raid the capital's naval yards and was able to warn the perimeter guards in time for them to stop the ogres without giving away his identity.
After that, he was speaking about events and plans with a woman who was similarly aware of the Evil Plots (tm), but already considered somewhat "outside" the main focus by virtue of being a woman. She did, however, have some sword skill and spend some time talking about how her father had been both proud of her accomplishments as well as disappointed when she did not act sufficiently lady-like.
As I woke, this all fell into place as feeling very 7th Sea-ish to me. I'm kind of sorry to miss out on the campaign. It was obviously doing well. ;)
In further dozing, I imagined (in a free-flowing, but not truly dreaming state as I wasn't fully asleep) my (old now) 7th Sea character, Sylvia, putting on a public show of being fed up with the trials the group had been facing and declaring she would be returning home and leaving the whole situation behind her. It was, of course, just an act so she could dye her hair, mask her weapons, hide her guild pin, and go on the move in a more clandestine fashion.
I don't think that would have gone well, though. She didn't really have the skill set to be that covert.
