Online Roleplaying, the Lighter Side
So, Tashiro has geared up for a 7th Sea game run on (but completely disconnected from the rest of) the MUCK. 'Tis an interesting game, but it's taking some getting used to as my play experience has hovered right around nil.
Restoration-era RP in a sort of alternate Earth with magic and such.
So we have:
- Sebastian, the Castille (Spanish) nobleman Captain-of-his-own-ship
- Lucien, the Montaigne (French) nobleman engaged to...
- Rufina, a Vodacce (Italian) noblewoman with a case of amnesia
- Phedre, a mysterious Avalon (English) woman who seems to be sidhe-ish, and seems pseudo-guardian for...
- Adam, a glamor-blessed Avalon boy with a big sword (NPC)
- Sylvia, my Eisen (German) noble swordswoman
In previous episodes:
Lucien and Rufina were, to start with, fished out of the water (after a nasty fate befell their last ride) to join the rest on Sebastian's ship. After arriving in port, arrangements were made to see a local opera. The heroes, however, missed the performance... as the opera house erupted into chaos. Exactly what happened remains unclear as witness behave as though the horrors of Hell were unleashed upon them and refuse to speak of what happened. The owner of the opera house commissioned the heroes to go to the original composer in Vodacce and get his money back. For varying reasons, no doubt, they agreed.
Elapsed Time: Hours perhaps
In last night's episode:
While waiting for preparations to be made on the ship for the journey, Sebastian, Rufina, Phedre, and Sylvia decided to track down the diva of the opera to see if she would be any more help than the audience or the conductor (who committed suicide).
One might think the black coach and horses that arrived to convey them might be a bad omen. In fact, this thought did occur to Sylvia. Those darker Brothers Grimm-style fairy tales? Those sorts of things are very much real in the darker corners of Eisen. She was able to shrug that off and climb aboard largely due to the belief that such things wouldn't happen in the middle of a Castille port city. This is what we call a learning experience.
Along the way, Sebastian noticed the carriage appeared off-course and climbed out to speak with the driver - only to have "him" turn out to be a mannequin that tumbled off the coach. After regaining control of the horses and bringing them to a halt, the Castillian touched one only to have it collapse into similar pieces. Cursing dark magics, Sylvia stepped out as well, both drawing weapons as ominous howling drew nearer.
And while Phedre worked some magic herself to vanish from view, the beast attacked. A massive black hound lunged out of a rip in the fabric of the world itself to sink fangs into Sylvia's shoulder. Sebastian stuck a decent hit in return, but the wounded Eisen lady's return strike was dodged. Rufina managed a very ladylike fainting. Then, as quickly as it came, the beast vanished back through another portal.
So there we are, between rounds one and two of combat. The heroes wait and watch, one suffering her first dramatic wound (as opposed to flesh wounds), for the thing to strike again.
