Viewing Results, Round 1

So I asked to view three condos, having seen write-ups on them. My real estate agent suggested a fourth too. Okay. So off we went.

Property 1: A little pricier than I would have liked, but within the range of being worth making an offer on. One covered parking space, plus uncovered ones. Ground unit in a building with two downstairs and two up. The complex seemed quiet for being right off a fairly major road. The fireplace wasn't really an issue for me. The living area seems... cozy, but adequate. I found a small washer and dryer in a closet - handy, that. The kitchen area seemed a bit small too, but then I'm not expecting roominess in this price range. Refrigerator, electric stove, and a dishwasher that's seen better days. Okay. One bathroom in the hall, one off the main bedroom. All-in-all, it seemed fine. I had a couple questions that I've e-mailed to the listing agent. We'll see how that goes.

Property 2: Right nearby, in a much larger complex. Two parking spaces and a storage room. Noise from the road was much more apparent here. The unit was on the second floor (ground-level is parking/storage). In we went. The layout was simpler, but roomier than the first place. It's got a higher square footage. I'd have to go back to compare, but there seemed to be less storage space in the kitchen. The dishwasher looks like a wreck, then electric oven has a broken heating element inside. None of it looks like it's been replaced since the place was built in '73. The bathroom was okay. Both bedroom doors had some amount of damage to them, and the folding bedroom closet doors could use replacing. This place has definitely been rented to college students. That's not always a bad thing, but it shows a lot of wear here. And there's a laundry room in the building... with pay washers/dryers. My response is not favorable.

Property 3: This is the one that was suggested I look at since it was in the same building as #2. It has a higher listing price, and I was hoping it'd be in notably better shape. Something, anything, to reaffirm my faith in humanity. Unfortunately, the electronic device used to open the lock box with the keys didn't work this time around. Heh. New piece of technology in the real estate office.

Property 4: A little different here, as someone is still living here. It's the oldest of the places we looked at, too. Plenty of parking with one covered spot. A little storage shed seems to be included. Inside was okay. The living room is separate from the kitchen/dining area. Washer and dryer come included, the fridge doesn't. The neighborhood is nice - quiet, though probably louder at the beginning and end of the schoolday as it's right near a grade school. The place seemed okay, but it didn't jump out and grab me. And when it's the most expensive on the list, I was expecting a little more.
