Silver Pass

Well, the local SCA event is coming up and... I find myself less than enthused. This isn't too surprising, really. I've written before on the decline of my interest in the SCA, so little I could say in general would be new. Oh, I figure I'll go for a while at some point during the weekend, but I've recently had a dose of distant friends, so there isn't the "but I haven't seen so-and-so in years" feeling. ... I miss being excited by the SCA, but the wonder wore off and I never found a place for myself. Heh... I also came to realize just recently (for the first time since moving) that I don't currently own a sleeping bag. o.o;

All caught up on movies

Two trips to the theater in one weekend is usually a bit much, but one takes what opportunities one has. "Hero" From reviews, I knew enough to think this more than just a martial arts flick. I'd also read just enough to think it may be subtitled, but I didn't really expect a warning about that from the ticket seller. This movie sums itself up in my mind with one word: beautiful. Visually, it's a very interesting experience with the scenic vistas and bright color themes for each scene. The fight scenes are fanciful, as you would expect of Chinese cinema, and struck me as perfect inspiration for Exalted. Really, though, it's not about the visuals. It's about storytelling - not just by telling a story, but by examining how the characters do so. To me, that was very refreshing. The pace of the movie is sedate next to most of what I am accustomed to, but I even appreciated that. "AvP" - Alien versus Predator More standard American actio

Overcompensation and RPGs

Two posts in one night? Aiiieeee! But seriously, something came up that reminded me of a question I wanted to pose to those of you who read this: What, to you, makes a roleplaying game? I'm not looking for some textbook "any game in which you act out a role" unless that's really all that is important about it to you. When you play an RPG, what do you expect? What element of the game do you miss if it's not there? ... And so on.

Not dead, just tired

Apparently I "should post more often." Heh. And here I worry more often over going on about things that are trivial to others. Go figure. Having friends in town who I haven't seen in months or years is nice. Hanging out at a party until some godawful hour of Sunday morning was exhausting. The old west photo Sunday... well, okay, I warmed to that some, but I still wasn't doing a second picture dressed as a saloon girl. (Sorry, Max.) And then I'm back working an evening shift this week. I find the shift more enjoyable as it's less stressful, but it puts me out-of-synch with everything else and that's kinda difficult to deal with sometimes. Ah well, so it goes. Today I missed my midday nap by being out and about looking for two DVDs - one which no one in town seems to have, and another which doesn't even exist. Oy. Back to Amazon to place a speedy order. What can you do? Meanwhile, my computer and I seem to have come to a rather strange agreement.
